FIFTH WEEKLY REFLECTION

FIFTH WEEKLY REFLECTION
(17-7-2017 TO 21-07-2017)
“We can teach from our experience, but we cannot teach experience.” ~ Sasha Azevedo

This is the fifth week of my teaching practice. I completed my first unit of English Text of IX and conducted achievement test, and I came to know about how better they could do and where they have to be improved. I also had my observation by our general teacher this week, which was not satisfactory for me, though I had few negatives. To be frank, I came to realize giving freedom to children creates lack of respect from their side, this experience really taught me a lot this week, and my way of interaction with them now is bit strict. Actually, being ridiculed by students feels really bad, and it doesn't meant its the Teachers approach to be changed, there's a lot of difference in the attitude of students of this time and our time, really I remember the quotes
" CHILDRENS ARE MONSTERS", PSYCHOLOGICAL APPROACH PUT FORWARD BY THE GOVT is just absurd, illogical according to me. Blaming the teachers for all the misbehaviour of the students is just "paradoxical". This has to be changed...
As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person.

Now, this has become my motto.
CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
This  week of teaching practice extended from 17-07-2017 to 21-07-2017, and I have completed my first unit and conducted achievement test too. On tuesday 18-07-2017 Margret Mary  madam came for observation during my 5th period in IX F, Am not at all satisfied comparing my previous observation, this time the children's were noisy and time management was out of control. The other day I got substitution period to teach English in IX E which was horrible ever. The situation became completely twisted there. On 20th and 21 st my friends, Revathy, Manju, Veena and Saranya came for peer evaluation of mine. Even I too went to see Saranya, Veena and Aswathy s class as a part of peer evaluation. On  20th sreedevi madam came for observation of natural science students and prathibha madam for physical science students and she signed our daily diary too.
Comparing my previous classes, I have increased my confidence level, and fear has been wiped out by now. I do feel satisfied with my teaching practice, but unsatisfied with the current generation. I just want to study more psychological approaches to handle the children of this materialistic and disrespectful generation.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

On 20th of this week , me along with my co student teachers went to VI D class during second period and make them do some drill work, were they all participated very enthusiastically.

drill work

Also the last day this weekend, friday during last period we had an awareness magic show, where all the 10 standard students were the audience, and we also joined the show by then .

SELF REFLECTION

On this week I think I had improved a lot in teaching. In the class I tried to give some additional resources on advanced materials, ie, using attractive teaching aids for a thorough understanding of the subject. My evaluations were mixed. ONE major complaints was about my time management and group activity.I learned a lot about teaching after this course. In my view, teaching is like a performing art. No amount of reading or attending workshops will prepare you for the challenge. You only get better with practice.
