The first day was meant for our introduction to them as well as to the school. We have got
substitutions starting from class VIII to X. It was really a good and terrific experience for me. The students were very lovable and cooperative on one hand and also at the peak of extreme naughtiness. As it was
the first day we went to each class with our peers. So it is easy to have a
look in to their class and study their attitude on us.
During the next week i.e, from 19-06-2017 to 23-06-2017
we started our teaching following our lesson plans. I was assigned to teach the ninth standard students. In the first day I taught them my first lesson plan.I felt very bad on the first day because my class consist of 43 students and children of IX was a very big deal for me to handle and classroom management was bad also children had an impact that we are training teachers. As the days progressed I was feeling more comfortable with both teachers and students. An exposure was given to me to supervise the teachers’ class who was absent. I was able to see some of the behaviour of the students towards teachers and felt respected. I felt very nervous at first but then I controlled it and moved on teaching. My associate teacher helped me explain the students some of the concepts which I was not very clear on.
As my first teaching experience was quite dull, this made me and advantage for the future classes were I really succeeded in establishing a very fine classes. As per the instruction from my associate English Sir, I completed 2 lesson plans each day by taking extra classes whenever I got free periods. I learned one thing that making too friendly attachments with students gave me lack of respect and their duty, and this make me to behave quite strict later, and now I follow a mutual mechanisms of both friendly and strict. As its quite difficult to handle such big students of larger strength especially by an inexperienced teacher like me, it was really difficult in the beginning.
During the next days, I really managed my class, my associate Sir accompanied me and he observed my class, thus I really put my complete sincerity while teaching was revealed from his comments, which gave me confidence further. At first I was reluctant to talk to all the teachers as they were new to me. As days passed by I became more confident and was able to interact well with them.
Within one week I had completed 5 lesson plans and the last day of the weekend, it was strike. And thus, the my very first weekend has really "taught" me the real "teaching practice".
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The main thing I noted at my school was they are promoting a lot
of extra curricular activities for the students. One among that was the
assembly. At that week they celebrated the World Reading Day and
as part of that special assembly was conducted. The assembly was conducted in
English and Malayalam languages. The assembly includes prayer, pledge,
news, thought of the day and finally quiz. Then the principal sir address the
students and gives the necessary instructions. Quiz programmes were conducted
at the end of the week as part of the World Reading Day.
On 21/06/2017, the
school celebrated World Yoga Day. As part of that yoga exercises is
conducted for the students. At the noon section the students were taken to the
school auditorium and taught them the importance of Asanas and do them certain Asanas.
As a freshman in the School of Education, I am so excited to get
plugged into real classrooms soon and get even more training and insight on
what it really is like to be a teacher. This teaching experience gave me a view
of what it is that I could potentially be doing a few years from now, and I am
more than excited to explore this amazing field that is education.
SELF REFLECTION
To conclude my weekend experience, I can say that I, had a lot of experience for me as a teacher. I have learnt a lot of things about the school and the amount of work the teachers need to do in order to carry out a successful class. I also learnt that teachers need to ensure that student learn the concepts taught in class i.e. the objectives are to be achieved.
